Product Spotlight: 550M/F Gore-Tex® Jacket
Feature: 13/11/2009

Corporate Clothing director-e puts Russell Europe and Gore’s first corporate collaboration under the microscope

The only good thing about the miserable, rainy weather we have been experiencing of late is that it gave me a prime opportunity to try out the new 550M/F Gore-Tex® jacket from Russell Europe.

This jacket is completely waterproof, with fully taped seams, breathable to Gore-Tex® standards and comes in male and female styles. Made from a 100% Nylon outer shell and 100% Polyester lining, it has been designed to a contemporary fit and sports a range of features including adjustable cuffs, to prevent the cold or wet from entering, and a roll-away hood.

I found the generous, fleece-like lined pockets and high collar very soft and warm against the biting cold – perfect for when (like me) you underestimate the weather and don’t take a scarf and pair of gloves out with you!

Another feature which I liked was the length of the jacket. Although it only covered half my bottom, its curved shaped was flattering and it kept me warm and dry – even protecting the tops of my legs to some extent. Meanwhile, the adjustable hood stayed put against the wind with the peak shielding my eyes. The fitted silhouette also made me feel quite stylish, a huge improvement on the sou’wester shockers of my youth.

Like most two-layer waterproof jackets it rustles quite a lot when you move, but there was a degree of flexibility as I braced the elements before finally ducking into my car. One thing about waterproofs is that you can start to sweat in them quite quickly but despite a blast of heat from my blowers as I drove on my way, I still felt comfortable after a 15 minute journey.

Having to stand up to the worst that the heavens have to offer, it’s fortunate that the manufacturers have had the foresight to make the jacket washable at 30ºC. All in all, a smart, stylish and effective jacket for those in the corporate market who want to wash up well.
