his year’s Workwear and Corporate Clothing Show attracted a record number of visitors, with numbers up by 28% on last year which suggest green shoots in the job-related clothing sector following the global economic slowdown.

New products and designs were in evidence on many of the eighty plus stands. Revolution Workwear previewed their new range of Dr. Martens workwear, while Alexandra showed impressive new offerings aimed at the healthcare sector. Bootmate brought their gel protection socks which prevent pain from safety footwear toecaps. Carhartt unveiled their range of women’s workwear while Tranemo offered a stylish take on men’s workwear.

Elsewhere in the busy hall at the Ricoh Arena, Mascot showed their new industrial range, designed for the rental market. JAL previewed a new lace and zip safety boot for use offshore and BTC Activewear’s stand with its workers lunching on a girder and entertainment provided by Laurel and Hardy, proved a popular draw.

On the corporate clothing side, immaculate finishing and fashion-led design was much in evidence at Dimensions, Burlington Uniforms, Corporate Clothing.com, Jermyn Street Design and Incorporatewear, with colourways and cuts taking cues from high end designers.

The support sector, from testing laboratories, to software suppliers, from badge and personalisation providers to fabric producers also reported that business was excellent.

In just three years, the show has become truly international, with CEPEX, the Tunisian trade export agency bringing a party of ten companies to exhibit. Buyers were impressed by the quality of goods available, short lead times, impressive sampling capabilities and the companies’ investment in infrastructure and staff. Tunisia was not the only country to be represented at the show, with exhibitors being drawn from as far afield as Botswana, Malta, Egypt, India, Netherlands and Germany. Visitors attended the event from throughout the UK, Europe and the US.

The catwalk show, which featured presentations from Jermyn Street Design, Incorporatewear, Dickies, Engel, Staffwear, Club Class, Dimensions and Alexandra again proved a highlight, almost bringing the show to a standstill as crowds flocked to the stage. International choreographer Debbie Astell brought the clothes to life in a number of amusing and expressive routines which can be seen here: Fashion catwalk show video

Many exhibitors were so impressed by the quality and quantity of business done that they have already confirmed plans to attend the 2011 event.
